Idar-Oberstein’s unique training and study opportunities attract numerous young talents to a town where Rhineland-Palatinate’s innovative power is particularly evident. Many institutes, teaching and research facilities and the Jewellery and Gemstone Design Department of Trier University are based in Idar-Oberstein. 

Across Germany, very few colleges offer vocational training courses in the field of jewellery and gemstone design. Here, Idar-Oberstein leads the field and offers trainees a range of courses.

The Trier University of Applied Sciences in Idar-Oberstein offers both a German-language bachelor's degree and an international master's degree as well as a further education master's degree, both in English, specifically for the subject of precious stones and jewelry.

Intergem Messe GmbH: Intergem is the international trade fair for gemstones, gemstone jewelry and gemstone objects and takes place in Idar-Oberstein. Goldsmiths and designers, jewelers and dealers, researchers and scientists from all over the world meet there for a professional exchange.

Industrieverband Schmuck- und Metallwaren e. V .: The Industrieverband Schmuck- und Metallwaren Idar-Oberstein e. V. has existed since 1958. It is both an employers' association with collective bargaining sovereignty for all collective bargaining and labor law issues as well as a professional association and advises its members in all areas of the industry.

    Federal Association of the Gemstone and Diamond Industry V .: The nationwide representative of the gemstone and jewelry industry with almost 100 member companies promotes the exchange on all industry-relevant topics, discusses important topics of the industry and is available as a competent contact person. The association also sees itself as a link to politics, brings its own expertise to the legislative process and is an applicant in the federal and AUMA's foreign trade fair program.

      Diamant- und Edelsteinbörse Idar-Oberstein: As the umbrella organization, the Diamond and Gemstone Bourse Idar-Oberstein (DEIO) is the connecting element between the various firms. More than 50 firms large and small are members of the DEIO, which itself is a member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses. This is where tradition meets innovation meet and local networks internationality. DEIO is a member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB).
