When summer comes, we don’t have to travel far to find a Mediterranean climate: Rhineland-Palatinate is one of the warmest German states, with the average temperature in July hovering just below 20 degrees Celsius/77 degrees Fahrenheit. Many hours of sunshine and mild temperatures ensure that our minds remain serene, and not just in the summer months: as the gray autumn days descend upon other parts of Germany, we continue to bask in the radiant hues of the evening sun – and that feels just as good as it sounds.

We can’t help you get an aristocratic title, but you can still feel like a princess or prince when you visit the nearly 80 historic castles and palaces waiting to be discovered in Rhineland-Palatinate. You can also tour many of them – for guaranteed fairy tale moments. Something that sets many of these historic buildings apart is that they have been passed down through the family line and remain heirloom estates to this day. Royal in Rhineland-Palatinate? But of course!

42%

of the country are covered with forest

Whether strolling through the picturesque alleyways of historic districts, hiking by idyllic vineyards, or cycling along scenic riverbanks, you will find just the right vacation activity here, no matter what you want to do.  And if you just want to relax, then try one of our numerous wellness offers. There’s only one thing we won’t do for you: decide what you do first.

Relatively speaking, nowhere in Germany has as much forest as Rhineland-Palatinate. More than 42 percent – or 840,000 hectares – of the state’s land area is forested. And the abundance of green space is something that’s not just good for us humans; several protected national parks feature endangered animal species roaming the forest floors – including the European wildcat in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. However, these shy hunters mostly hide out in the dense undergrowth. It’s much easier to spot the cold-water geyser in Andernach. It erupts to a height of around 60 meters, making it the highest-erupting geyser of its type in the world.
