Today an innovative idea, tomorrow an economic powerhouse to be reckoned with: success stories like that of the Mainz-based pharmaceutical company BioNTech demonstrate how well innovations can come to fruition in Rhineland-Palatinate. The best part is that the development of a vaccine in record time isn’t merely a one-off; it’s a symbol of the potential that Rhineland-Palatinate has to offer across all industries.

Innovative ideas are constantly emanating from the more than 20 universities and research institutions, and the technology centers offer an ideal platform for founding innovative companies. Business and science work closely together and we offer startups the best conditions, support, and networking to ensure they grow at the right pace.

Targeted innovation also requires a clear location policy. We put particular emphasis on this necessity in Rhineland-Palatinate. It often isn’t easy for investors from outside a region when it comes to location analysis. Our Investitions- und Strukturbank Rheinland-Pfalz (ISB) provides the most important information, prepares location offers, deals with funding issues, and assists with specific projects so that investors can ideally be guided to the right property.

Personal conversation instead of paperwork

Network & exchange

We strongly believe that innovative ideas should not be allowed to fail because of bureaucratic red tape. That’s why we rely on good networks and personal conversation – and why we launched the Startup Office, which allows young startup founders to obtain precisely the information they need about topics relating to startups, funding programs, and networking opportunities within the scene. It is all done in accordance with the motto “Together, we can make good ideas even better.”

For more than 30 years, research has been conducted on applied artificial intelligence (AI) here in Rhineland-Palatinate. However, top-flight institutions such as the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern and the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM) don’t just conduct research on their own: in close cooperation with non-university research institutions, companies with a rich tradition, and startups, Rhineland-Palatinate’s AI pioneers are testing solutions to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. This dense dovetailing of several areas is unique in the world. And to ensure that the beacon of our AI expertise shines even brighter internationally, we now have two AI ambassadors who are highly regarded in expert circles.
